MedStar Health Is Tobacco-Free

As part of our vision to be the trusted leader in caring for people and advancing health, we have implemented a tobacco-free policy at all our entities. As of November 20, 2008, all MedStar Health sites are tobacco-free.

Through this proactive change, MedStar Health demonstrates its commitment to improving the health of its patients, associates and the communities we serve. Our policies and procedures around tobacco use reflect this commitment. The tobacco-free policy unites all local tobacco-use policies into one comprehensive system policy and is part of a new forthcoming system-wide wellness initiative.

All individuals at any building, property, parking lot or site, owned, leased or rented by a MedStar Health entity, are required to comply with the tobacco-free policy. The policy applies to everyone on campus, including associates, physicians, patients, contract staff, vendors, volunteers, students and visitors. For those buildings we lease or rent space within, this policy is enforced with associates and MedStar Health-related visitors/vendors.
